BODILY HEALING AND DELIVERANCE FROM GOD

BODILY HEALING AND DELIVERANCE FROM GOD

Exodus 15:26; Psalm 103:3; Proverbs 4:20-22; Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:16,17; James 5:14,15; I Peter 2:24.

God’s promise of healing and deliverance to His people was sealed with a covenant – the healing covenant. The knowledge of this covenant and faith in the promises of God help in rightly appropriating the blessings of healing and deliverance which God has for us.

1. GOD’S COVENANT OF HEALING WITH HIS PEOPLE
– Exodus 15:26; Exodus 23:25,26; Deuteronomy 7:12-15.

Israel became God’s covenant people – "A kingdom of priests and a holy nation" - when He bought and brought them into Himself (Exodus 19:3-8; 24:6-8). From that time they started enjoying the benefits and blessings of the covenant.

2. GOD’S FATHFULNESS IN HEALING ALL UNDER THE HEALING COVENANT
– Psalm 105:37; Numbers 21:4-9; 2 Chronicles 30:18-20; Psalm 103:1-5; 107:17-20.

Sickness – pestilence, fever, inflammation, cancer, ulcer, boils, swellings, itching, madness, blindness, heart-failure, plagues, diseases and sore sickness of long continuance as well as nameless sicknesses – came on the Israelites, God’s covenant people, when they disobeyed the Lord and broke His covenant(Deuteronomy 28:15-29,58-61). But when they repented and prayed, fulfilling the covenant conditions, they were healed (Numbers 21:4-9; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 107:17-20.)

3. AGENTS OF HEALING

Besides obeying the Lord, there are other agents of bodily healing.

(a) THE WORD OF GOD
– Psalm 107:20; Proverbs 4:20-22; John 8:32; Psalm 91:3-7,10; Matthew 8:8.

The Word itself heals. The Word of God has an amazing and completely distinctive power– it will reproduce its miracle life for salvation, holiness, healing and health in you.
"His truth shall be thy shield and buckler" – protection in time of an epidemic of contagious disease. The power of the Lord is present where and when God’s Word is being preached (Luke 5:17).

(b) THE WILL OF GOD
- I John 5:14,15; John 5:30 with Act 10:38; Matthew 8:1-3; Deuteronomy 7:15; 3 John 2; Matthew 6:10 with Isaiah 33:24; John 10:10.

God’s command is God’s will. God’s promise is God’s will. God’s provision is God’s will. God’s Word is God’s will.
It is useless to try to find God’s will apart from His Word. God has given the scriptures to reveal His will to humanity. God cannot promise to do for anyone, anything contrary, in any way, to His perfect will. He promised and provided for healing in the atonement – healing of the body is God’s will for you.
The only time we may pray, "If it be they will, "is when we do not know God’s will. But when praying for salvation (for a sinner) and healing (for the sick) we do know God’s will (2 Peter 3:9; James 5:14,15).

(c) THE NAME OF GOD
– Exodus 15:26; Proverbs 18:10; Philippians 2:9-11; Mark 16:17,18; Acts 3:1-8,16; 4:10; Psalm 91:14,15,16; John 14:12,13.

In Scripture, there is much instruction, promise, blessing and important truths attached to names of persons and places.
Note: Noah, (Genesis 5:28,29) signifying ‘rest’ or comfort; Abraham (Genesis 17:5-8); Sarah (Genesis 17:15-19); Israel (Genesis 32:28); Joshua (Numbers 13:16; 14:30); Jesus (Matthew 1:21); Emmanuel (Matthew 1:23); Barnabas (Acts 4:36,37) etc.
In God’s redemptive relation to man, Jehovah has seven compound names which reveal Him as meeting every need of man in this world – from his lost state to the end. These redemptive names point to Calvary. Furthermore, the blessing that each name reveals was provided by the atonement.
The following are the seven redemptive names.

(a) Jehovah-Shamma
: "The Lord is there" or present (Ezekiel 48:35; Matthew 28:20; Matthew 18:20).
(b) Jehovah-Shalom: "The Lord our Peace" Judges 6:23,24; Isaiah 53:5; Colossians 1:20.
(c) Jehovah-Ra-ah: "The Lord is my Shepherd" – Psalm 23:1; John 10:10,11.
(d) Jehovah-Jireh: "The Lord will provide" an offering – Geneis 22:14; John 4:10; 3:16
(e) Jehovah-Nissi: "The Lord is our Banner", "Victor" or "Captain" - Exodus 17:15; I Corinthians 15:57.
(f) Jehovah-Tsidkenu: "The Lord our Righteousness" – Jeremiah 23:6; I Corinthians 1:30.
(g) Jehovah-Rapha or Jehovah-Ropheka: "I am the Lord that healeth thee" or I am the Lord thy Physician" – Exodus 15:26; Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:16,17; I Peter 2:24.
The Hebrew Grammar used in Exodus 15:26 denotes action either (1) as a function of one’s profession or (2) as an expression of one’s nature. God’s nature is love and He heals.

4. THE LOVE NATURE OF GOD
– I John 4:8; Matthew 7:7-11; James 1:17; 2 Peter 1:3,4; Philippians 4:19; Ephesians 3:20.

Love expresses itself in relieving those who suffer. One of the many ways in which God demonstrates His love is in healing the sick and relieving human misery. Do not be afraid to ask God for a miracle; it is His nature to do good things in a large way. Parental love does not cause the children to be sick; it causes healing and health.

5. THE MERCY OF GOD
– Matthew 20:30-34; Luke 17:12-19; Luke 6:36; James 3:17; 5:11.

Healing is the mercy of God in action. God heals people, not because of their good works, but because of His mercy. Mercy is an attribute of God. It is a divine characteristic. "He is gracious and merciful" (Joel 2:13). He heals, not because of what you do but because of what He did (I Peter 2:24). Look at Jesus and you will see mercy. Look at His mercy and you will see His healing.

6. THE POWER OF GOD
– Matthew 28:18-20; Colossians 1:16,17; Luke 9:1; 5:17; Matthew 19:26; Luke 10:19; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Philippians 4:13.

It is wonderful to know the One who has all power and finds nothing impossible. The person who has received Christ into his life has received the One who is the source and possessor of all power. His power will work for you, work in you and work through you.
Generally, the Bible speaks of two kinds of power. God offers you both. One is the dynamic power (Greek dunamis) of ability, energy, and strength. The other is the legal power (Greek exousia) of authority, right, dominion and attorney.
Jesus gave His disciples "power (dunamnis) and authority (exousia) over all devils and to cure diseases" – Luke 9:1; 10:19-21.

7. THE SPIRIT OF GOD
– Romans 8:11; Romans 8:26,27; I Corinthians 3:16; 6:19,20; Job 33:4; Matthew 10:20; 12:28; Acts 10:38.

No sickness can stand before the mighty Spirit of God. Your body is His temple. If you allow Him, He will keep His temple free from sin, sickness and satanic attacks.
